The Best Is Yet To Be

Elder Holland gave this first in an address at BYU in 2009 and then it was in the January 2010 Ensign and I just came across it and I loved it.

"As a new year begins and we try to benefit from a proper view of what has gone before, I plead with you not to dwell on days now gone nor to yearn vainly for yesterdays, however good those yesterdays may have been. The past is to be learned from but not lived in. We look back to claim the embers from glowing experiences but not the ashes. And when we have learned what we need to learn and have brought with us the best that we have experienced, then we look ahead and remember that faith is always pointed toward the future. Faith always has to do with blessings and truths and events that will yet be efficacious in our lives.

There is something in many of us that particularly fails to forgive and forget earlier mistakes in life—either our mistakes or the mistakes of others. It is not good. It is not Christian. It stands in terrible opposition to the grandeur and majesty of the Atonement of Christ. To be tied to earlier mistakes is the worst kind of wallowing in the past from which we are called to cease and desist.

When something is over and done with, when it has been repented of as fully as it can be repented of, when life has moved on as it should and a lot of other wonderfully good things have happened since then, it is not right to go back and open some ancient wound that the Son of God Himself died to heal.

Let people repent. Let people grow. Believe that people can change and improve. Is that faith? Yes! Is that hope? Yes! Is that charity? Yes! Above all, it is charity, the pure love of Christ.

The proviso, of course, is that repentance has to be sincere, but when it is and when honest effort is being made to progress, we are guilty of the greater sin if we keep remembering and recalling and rebashing someone with his or her earlier mistakes—and that someone might be ourselves. We can be so hard on ourselves—often much more so than on others!

You can remember just enough to avoid repeating the mistake, but then put the rest of it all on the dung heap Paul spoke of to the Philippians. Dismiss the destructive, and keep dismissing it until the beauty of the Atonement of Christ has revealed to you your bright future and the bright future of your family, your friends, and your neighbors. God doesn’t care nearly as much about where you have been as He does about where you are and, with His help, where you are willing to go."

These are just a few parts of his talk that I really liked and stood out to me. I highly recommend reading his whole talk! Here are some of my thoughts about it. I am so grateful for my savior Jesus Christ and that died so that I can be healed from my mistakes and the mistakes of others that have hurt me. We are here to learn and grow and when we don't forgive and forget we are only hurting ourselves. We need to have faith in Christ and trust that He does have a plan for us and even though we might not be able to see it until a little later. Faith is always pointed forward to the future! Faith is the opposite of fear. When we have faith in God we will be happy because we will be moving forward and trusting in the one who knows us best. I really loved the part when he says, "Let people repent. Let people grow. Believe that people can change and improve." So often I think we don't allow others to grow because we focus too much on their mistakes from their past. But don't we all want to be forgiven of our own sins and have them be forgotten? When we forgive others past mistakes and forget them we are showing faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement. I know that Jesus atoned for us all and that through Him is the only way to move forward and forget our past. “He who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more” (D&C 58:42).

Keep The City From Falling

Alma 59:9
Background: Moroni is Captain over the Nephite Army. He is in the middle of a HUGE battle with the Lamanites and has just lost another city. There are hidden treasures of applicable knowledge within these war chapters... this is just one little nugget.

9 And now as Moroni had supposed that there should be men sent to the city of Nephihah, to the assistance of the people to maintain that city, and knowing that it was easier to keep the city from falling into the hands of the Lamanites than to retake it from them, he supposed that they would easily maintain that city.

The Nugget: It is easier to keep a city from falling into the hands of the enemy than it is to get it back once you've lost it. Whatever amount of preparation, whatever sacrifices need to be made, whatever amount of hard work may be necessary to protect the city against the enemy is well worth it, if in the end you maintain that city and keep it safe. So it is with us. It is way easier to keep ourselves from falling into the hands of the enemy by striving to live a clean and wholesome life than it is to try to fight our way out of the peace strangling grasp of the enemy of all righteousness. There is always a way out. The way is Jesus Christ. But, just as Moroni and his men found out, it can be a difficult and painful road. Whatever preparation, sacrifice, and hard work we need to give in order to keep ourselves from falling will be well worth the effort. Let's help keep each other strong, motivated to do good, supported in our trials, and safe from the hands of the enemy.

Love you.

General Conference!!

So, I just wanted to share my thoughts on General Conference this Oct. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED it!! :) I had the privilege of attending the Saturday Morning session with Alisha, Brittney and Gunnar. We were a little far away, but I still loved knowing that I was in the same building as the Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson. It was glorious! I felt the spirit so strongly, and yes, I admit, I cried a little! It was just so awesome! I love conference, and I especially loved being able to hear and see the Prophet, my joy is indescribable!
If I HAD to choose my favorite talk.... It would probably be, President Uchtdorf's. I LOVE President Uchtdorf, I always have, and I think I always will, he is just my favorite! But I hear, this might be a Clark thing, haha! That's ok! We can all like him! :)
Some of the things that I loved about his talk were::
1. "We would do well to slow down and Truly see what matters most." ~I loved this because it's so true! We all need to slow down and realize why we are really here, and what we need to do, to just be a little better everyday!
2. Turn to the Lord, and when He answers DO IT!
3. "Our relationship with God is most vital."
4. Open our hearts to the Holy Ghost and if we have a relationship with God, our lives will know greater peace and happiness.
5. Love is really spelled T.I.M.E.
6.Spend time together as a Family (Family prayer, Scripture study, Family Dinner)
7. Get to know yourselves. - Learn to see yourself as God see's us, As a Daughter or Son of God.
8. Re-focus on What matters most.
There were SO many good talks this Conference, (Pres. Monson, Pres. Eyring, Elder Bednar, Elder Packer, Elder Christofferson, Elder Jensen) I loved them all! But I loved this one the most, and I just thought to share with you all how I felt about Conference!
I love you all!!

Continue In Patience

"... Patience was far more than simply waiting for something to happen - patience required actively working toward worthwhile goals and not getting discouraged when results didn't appear instantly or without effort.
Patience means active waiting and enduring. It means staying with something and doing all that we can - working, hoping, and exercising faith; bearing hardship with fortitude, even when the desires of our hearts are delayed. Patience is not simply enduring; it is enduring well!
Ultimately, patience means being 'firm and steadfast, and immovable in keeping the commandments of the Lord' every hour of every day, even when it is hard to do so."

President Uchtdorf gave this awesome talk in the priesthood session last conference in April. I guess I really need to learn more patience because it seems as I study in the scriptures the word patience often stands out to me. I don't think I realized how active we need to be while being patient. Often times I think of patience as being passive and just waiting but obviously that is not the case! I am grateful for this godly attribute of patience and that we are given the opportunity in this life to try and gain it. I know that when we work towards acquiring this attribute to become more like Christ we are truly blessed. I am so grateful to have the prophet and apostles to speak to us and remind us how we can better ourselves. I am really looking forward to conference in about 2 weeks and being able to hear the things I should be doing. We are so blessed to have modern day prophets and that we can receive revelation for our day!

Voice of the Spirit

I loved this and wanted to share!
I testify that the gift of the Holy Ghost is one of the most precious gifts from our Heavenly Father. The world is very LOUD and the spirit is so quiet... but it IS there. And it is through that small voice that your life can be guided by the Lord. Remember that the Spirit is such a gentleman it will not go anywhere it is not invited, so I encourage you to strive to always be worthy to have the spirit with you.

Don't Leap with the Sheep

By S. Michael Wilcox
I feel like I could write about a hundred posts on this book and it still wouldn't be enough. I have learned so much as I have read and studied the teachings in this book. I would recommend it to everyone! The way that he teaches, and explains gospel principles is amazing. It is simple, yet so profound. He has helped me remember what is truly important in life and why it is so important to live the gospel and be an active member of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

One of my favorite parts of the book talks about being born with the fruit in our hands. He tells about his friend who left the rod and the tree to visit the spacious building. His friend was not gone long before returning, but he knew enough of both worlds to teach a powerful lesson. "There is nothing in the building you want!" his friend would remind him. "You already have the best there is in the world! You don't have to search for it. Don't be deceived as I was." His words were always spoken with great earnestness.
Brother Wilcox goes on to say, "Perhaps the most powerful, mist-clearing truth is the assurance that we already have the most desirable thing in life. We don't have to wander in a vain pursuit of happiness. Many of us were born with the fruit in our hands. We sometimes hear the expression, 'How sweet it is!' This is usually spoken in the context of some worldly pursuit or pleasure. But we have that which is sweet above all things. As Alma testified, 'It beginneth to be delicious to me.' (Alma 32:28.) Nothing in life will give us more joy than that which we now possess. There simply isn't anything more precious we can obtain. Our eyes have already looked upon the greatest beauty."

What a wonderful reminder! We have all been so blessed to have the gospel in our lives. We really have the BEST that this world has to offer. Nothing will bring us more happiness. I know this is true. I know that my Savior lives. I know that He loves us. We can return to live with Him. I love this gospel. I love you all.

BE YE SEPARATE

57 And now I say unto you, all you that are desirous to follow the voice of the agood shepherd, come ye out from the wicked, and BE YE SEPARATE and touch not their unclean things; and behold, their names shall be cblotted out, that the names of the wicked shall not be numbered among the names of the righteous, that the word of God may be fulfilled, which saith: The names of the wicked shall not be mingled with the names of my people;

We are told to "be ye separate." We can only do this by separating ourselves from the world and its influence. We have to make the simple choice each day of who we want to follow. When we choose Christ we are setting ourselves apart from the world. At times it might seem difficult to choose Christ because we feel as though we might not fit in with what everyone else is doing. Satan makes it very easy to feel that way and makes it seem like it is a hard choice but its not! We know who will win this war in the end and if we can make the choice to follow Christ each day in all aspects we will have the spirit with us and it will help us to make the right choices every day. I am so grateful for this gospel! We are called to stand out and be witnesses of Christ! I know that as we make the choice to BE YE SEPARATE and choose to stand on Christ's side we will be blessed to have His spirit with us and we will be numbered among the righteous so we can return to live with Him again!

I can do all things

Philippians 4:13::

"I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me."

It's such a simple scripture! But it has so much power! I love love love (need I go on?) this scripture!!! It's so true, I can do all things through Christ. I can! And, Christ strengthens me to be able to do it! I am so grateful that Christ loves me and you, so much that He makes it possible for us to do ALL THINGS! Whether it's finding something, or getting through a bad day, or getting along with someone, preparing a talk, giving a lesson, helping others, finding a job, making payments on time, paying your tithing, he helps us with everything!! And I am SO grateful! I love this gospel, and I LOVE finding new scriptures everyday! I love reading them everyday and learning something new! And, we all can if, we just have the desire! I love this gospel sooo much!
I love you all tons!!
And, I miss you all!! :)

Trust in God

Mosiah 24
14 And I will also ease the aburdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as bwitnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their cafflictions.
15 And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did astrengthen them that they could bear up their bburdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with cpatience to all the will of the Lord.
16 And it came to pass that so great was their faith and their patience that the voice of the Lord came unto them again, saying: Be of good comfort, for on the morrow I will deliver you out of bondage.

I know that as we have trials if we turn to the Lord he will make them LIGHT, that He will strengthen us so we can bear them with ease. As we submit cheerfully and have patience to follow the will of the Lord He will then DELIVER us from our trials. We must show our commitment to follow Him and His ways before He will fully deliver us. We can not expect to be immediately delivered from our trials; we have to remember that the Lord knows all and we need to trust his time table. We are sent to earth to go through all different experiences. I am grateful that we have the Lord's help as we go through our trials and that we are not left alone here in mortality.

Multiplicity of Blessings

D&C 104:42
"And inasmuch as he is faithful in keeping my commandments, which I have given him, I will multiply blessings upon him and his seed after him, even a multiplicity of blessings.

I feel like we are always telling our children to listen... follow the rules... obey. I often say to them, don't you realize that if you follow the rules and obey everyone will be happy and that you will get so many things that you want? Then of course I get frustrated because I think they don't understand because they are just not getting it. Well, I can only imagine what Our Father in Heaven thinks of me at times. I am sure he is saying to me, don't you understand that if you follow & obey my commandments you will be happy and I will bless you with all you need. He must get frustrated and think, that Brittney she obviously doesn't understand.
While I was reading this chapter in the D&C it was amazing to me how many verses said these words, (vs 35)..."and inasmuch as he is faithful I will multiply my blessings upon him." (vs 38)..." And inasmuch as he is faithful I will multiply a multiplicity of blessings upon him." (vs 46) ..."And I will multiply blessings upon the house of my servant Joseph Smith Jr. inasmuch as he is faithful, even a multiplicity of blessings.
How do we be faithful? I think that it is amazing that our counter attack to Satan and his temptations are "the primary answers" Pray, Read your Scriptures, Keep the Commandments, Keep your Covenants, Go to the Temple, Follow the Prophet....etc. By doing these things we are building our Faith and preparing ourselves to receive those multiplicity of blessings.
I think that as we read and study the scriptures we gain the blessings of knowledge and the spirit. As we pray we humbly plead with the Father to help us and bless us and we know that He will answer. When we take a moment and we recognize all that He has done for us our faith increases and we know that our Father in Heaven loves us.
We may all have a little rebellion in us if we get up and start the day without prayer and scripture study. It is as if we are saying, "that is okay, I know that you could bless me and that the day would go easier, but I want to do it all by myself today."
For me I look at my stewardship that I have with my husband to raises these children in truth and light, and I need nothing more than a multiplicity of His blessings to help me along the way. I am not perfect and recognize that I need to do better. I do know that I do not need to do this work alone, because all in all it is His greatest work and that He is always there. I know that I need my days to go easier, to have the spirit with me always, and receive that multiplicity of blessings daily.
I know that He will give that multiplicity of blessings to us all if we do our part and if we are faithful.
Love you all!

The Love of God

"Don't get discouraged if you stumble at times. Don't feel downcast or despair if you don't feel worthy to be a disciple of Christ at all times. The first step to walking in righteousness is simply to try. We must try to believe. Try to learn of God: read the scriptures; study the words of His latter-day prophets; choose to listen to the Father, and do the things He asks of us. Try and keep on trying until that which seems difficult becomes possible-and that which seems only possible becomes habit and a real part of you." President Uchtdorf, 2009 Oct. General Conference

Life isn't easy. It is challenging, stressful, discouraging and just hard sometimes. We are going to have difficult times and trials, but because we have the knowledge of the gospel and of the plan of happiness we don't have to let the hard times get us down. Just try. Try to have faith. Try to choose the right. It's that simple. I know that when I am living the way that my Heavenly Father wants I am happier, and that he blesses me with the things and experiences that I need. Life isn't about being perfect. We will never reach that in this life. We aren't expected to. It is about trying, believing, and knowing that when we do all we can, He will step in and be there. I know this is true. I love reading the words of our living Prophet and Apostles. They will lead and guide us in righteousness. I know my Savior lives. He atoned for my sins, your sins and everyone who has ever lived. It truly is a miraculous gift. We are so blessed to know, and to share with others how to obtain happiness in this life.

Coming unto Christ through the scriptures

So I spoke on Sunday about this topic and since this blog is called SOTW I thought that it might be something worth putting up here. As most of you know I'm not the best writer so I'm a little nervous about putting my talk up here but I feel that I should.

In the true to the faith book under the scriptures it says, “When Holy men of God write or speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, their words “shall be scripture, shall be the will of the Lord, shall be the mind of the Lord, shall be the word of the Lord, shall be the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto salvation.” (D&C 68:4)

From a young age I have known the scriptures to be true but for some reason I have never been a really dedicated scripture studier. I would set goals and keep them and then would eventually slack off again and let things of the world distract me. I would often hear others comment in church saying, “oh that reminds me of this scripture” and they would go on to quote it. I never understood why that never happened to me. I thought I was doing all the right things but maybe I just wasn’t spiritual enough. But then one day I realized why I didn’t have those thoughts come to me. It was simply because I wasn’t studying and feasting upon the scriptures. Just reading whenever I found time to wasn’t going to cut it and I needed to make some changes.

In order to have the spiritual experiences I wanted, I needed to realize the reason why we should study the scriptures. The principle purpose is to testify of Christ, helping us come unto Him, and receive eternal life. It also builds faith, fortifies against temptation. If we desire to avoid evils of this world we must feed our minds with the truth and righteousness found in the scriptures. We will grow closer to God and to each other as we read and ponder the scriptures together.

I found a couple of different steps that have helped me on my way to better scripture study.

1. Cut out distractions

2. Make it a priority or to put God first

3. Pray before studying

4. Have a scripture study journal

Most of these steps are pretty simple and don’t require a whole lot of effort other than just trying and experimenting to see what works.

Cutting out distractions for me included cutting out the T.V. I was amazed at the difference it had on my family and I after just a few days of no T.V. and dedicated scripture time. My days run smoother and I am able to spend quality time with my family. By cutting out distractions I was able to easily make scripture study a priority in my life. Ezra Taft Benson said, “When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives. Our love of the Lord will govern the claims for our affection, the demands on our time, the interests we pursue, and the order of our priorities.”

God commands us to read the scriptures and so I try and have it be one of the first things I do each day. When I make the time to do it first I feel the strength that it gives me and helps me to put on my armor for the day to withstand Satan’s distractions and temptations. I know that for most of us it isn’t always the easiest thing to do but I have discovered that I can get up early or I can set aside time after breakfast to pull out my scriptures and I can be an example to my son and show him that it is something that is important to do.

Praying before studying invites the spirit that helps me to receive inspiration clearly. In D&C 8:2 it says “Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart.” This leads into the last step of having a scripture study journal. When I have thoughts or impressions come to me I know that as I am a busy mom if I don’t write it down right away I probably won’t remember what it was. I also find that I am able to remember more of what I study if I write things down. I love how I can go back and look at what I wrote about a certain verse and yet still find something new to learn from it.

I’m still not perfect at studying and feasting upon the words of Christ but I know as I do these steps they help me strive to be like Christ. I love how just by doing the small and simple things like studying the scriptures enhances all aspects of my life. I know I am a better mom, wife, daughter, and friend when I am learning and applying the teachings of the scriptures. I know that studying the scriptures helps me fight temptations and helps fortify my home.

I have seen the power of studying together as a family, as a couple, and in my own personal study. My family has recently started a SOTW blog and we are all able to post about different things we read and share our testimonies about it. It has been such a strength in my life to see us all grow in the gospel together. I feel so blessed to have the scriptures and the modern day scripture to help me come unto Christ.

Things Which Are Sacred

Alma 37:14-16
14 "And now remember, my son, that God has entrusted you with these things, which are sacred, which he has kept sacred, and also which he will keep and preserve for a wise purpose in him, that he may show forth his power unto future generations.
15 And now behold, I tell you by the spirit of prophecy, that if ye transgress the commandments of God, behold, these things which are sacred shall be taken away from you by the power of God, and ye shall be delivered up unto Satan, that he may sift you as chaff before the wind.
16 But if ye keep the commandments of God, and do with these things which are sacred according to that which the Lord doth command you (for you must appeal unto the Lord for all things whatsoever ye must do with them) behold, no power of earth or hell can take them from you, for God is powerful to the fulfilling of all his words."

I know Alma is talking about the scriptures in these versus, but I think the principles can be applied to other 'things which are sacred'. A few things come to mind... First, I think of the Priesthood. 'God has entrusted you with these things, which are sacred'. If we transgress the commandments of God and give into temptations then His Priesthood will be taken away from us and we will be delivered up unto Satan. BUT, if we work hard to honor the Priesthood and to live worthily, according to that which the Lord doth command, for we must appeal to Him for ALL things whatsoever we must do with the Priesthood, then NO POWER OF EARTH OR HELL CAN TAKE IT AWAY FROM US! Can you imagine the power and goodness that would come about if, as holders of the Holy Priesthood of God, we all stood a little taller and worked a little harder to honor that Priesthood and to stay clean and close to the Spirit!
Second, I think of our Marriage Covenants. Again, 'God has entrusted you with these things, which are sacred, which he has kept sacred, and also which he will keep and preserve for a wise purpose in him, that he may show forth his power unto future generations.' This is an ETERNAL issue! The message is the same, if we transgress the commandments and set aside our covenants, even for just a moment, to indulge in sin or to allow the world to come between us, 'these things which are sacred shall be taken away from you by the power of God, and ye shall be delivered up unto Satan, that he may sift you as chaff before the wind.' BUT, the promise is also the same... if ye keep the commandments of God, and do with these things which are sacred according to that which the Lord doth command you (for you must appeal unto the Lord for all things whatsoever ye must do with them) behold, no power of earth or hell can take them from you, for God is powerful to the fulfilling of all his words." Third, I think of our children. Once again, 'God has entrusted you with these things, which are sacred'. In this case I really like the teaching of 'appealing unto the Lord for ALL things whatsoever ye must do with them'. These children are not ours. We are not the all-mighty parents who dictate and decide. In fact, they are our brothers and sisters. Who's to say that they are not our OLDER brothers and sister, spiritually. We know that we have been together in the pre-mortal world for a long time. We know that, though we were all good and we all chose to follow Jesus Christ, some were more valiant than others in that pre-mortal life. I have a hunch that Kaciann, Alexis, Colton and little Tegan were my spiritual superiors before we came here. I have a feeling that I looked to them for leadership and testimony, as they were more spiritually advanced than me prior to coming here. Maybe I dreamed of being like them someday. Maybe they were my heroes. Maybe they sat down with me and gave me a pep talk before coming here, encouraging me to find the light and hold on to it with all I have. Pumping me up to live close to the Lord and to teach them the important things, even the things which are sacred. I am so thankful to be able to appeal to the Lord and receive direction and guidance in raising His children. I am grateful for the promise that, through the making and keeping of sacred temple covenants, 'no power of earth or hell can take them away from me'.
I love you all.

Happily Ever After

"My dear young sisters, you need to know that you will experience your own adversity. None is exempt. You will suffer, be tempted, and make mistakes. You will learn for yourself what every heroine has learned: through overcoming challenges come growth and strength.

It is your reaction to adversity, not the adversity itself, that determines how your life’s story will develop.

There are those among you who, although young, have already suffered a full measure of grief and sorrow. My heart is filled with compassion and love for you. How dear you are to the Church. How beloved you are of your Heavenly Father. Though it may seem that you are alone, angels attend you. Though you may feel that no one can understand the depth of your despair, our Savior, Jesus Christ, understands. He suffered more than we can possibly imagine, and He did it for us; He did it for you. You are not alone.

If you ever feel your burden is too great to bear, lift your heart to your Heavenly Father, and He will uphold and bless you. He says to you, as He said to Joseph Smith, “[Your] adversity and [your] afflictions shall be but a small moment; and then, if [you] endure it well, God shall exalt [you] on high.”3

Enduring adversity is not the only thing you must do to experience a happy life. Let me repeat: how you react to adversity and temptation is a critical factor in whether or not you arrive at your own “happily ever after.”

We all search for happiness, and we all try to find our own “happily ever after.” The truth is, God knows how to get there! And He has created a map for you; He knows the way. He is your beloved Heavenly Father, who seeks your good, your happiness. He desires with all the love of a perfect and pure Father that you reach your supernal destination. The map is available to all. It gives explicit directions of what to do and where to go to everyone who is striving to come unto Christ and “stand as [a witness] of God at all times and in all things, and in all places.”4All you have to do is trust your Heavenly Father. Trust Him enough to follow His plan."

I know that President Uchtdorf was inspired to give this talk. We all have things in this life that we feel alone and that no one knows how we feel but when reading this talk I could feel that Heavenly Father really knows me and is aware of me. All of us will experience adversity in this life and I know that what he says about how we react to adversity is true. When we turn to our Savior and focus on what we can learn from different trials in our lives we can be blessed. I know that God knows each of us and our individual circumstances. I am so grateful for my Savior and the atonement. It is the root of the gospel and without it we would be nothing. I am so grateful to be a member of this church and to have the knowledge of how to overcome adversity and how to return back to our loving Heavenly Father.

Perfectly Honest and Upright in All Things

Alma 27:27
27 "And they were among the people of Nephi, and also numbered among the people who were of the church of God. And they were also distinguished for their zeal towards God, and also towards men; for they were perfectly honest and upright in all things; and they were firm in the faith of Christ, even unto the end."

What an honor it is to be 'numbered among the people who are of the Church of God.' What a privilege it is to carry the name of Jesus Christ and to be a representative of Him, holding His Holy Priesthood, even the very power of God and the right to act, to bless, to serve, and to testify in His name!
Zeal... what a great word! Enthusiasm. Energy. Excitement. In other words, being ON FIRE with the testimony of this great latter day work! It reminds me of my mission, running up and down the streets of Argentina to catch the people who wouldn't stop as they passed us on their bicycles, standing up at the front of the bus and singing a Hymn and then bearing testimony of Christ and His Restored Gospel to all the passengers, standing on the park bench at the city center park and testifying to crowds of people that Jesus is the Christ, that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, that families can be together forever! What a BLAST! I loved every second of that time... and I hunger to have the FIRE again!
What a great example these people have given to us! I was recently asked what I would want said about me at my funeral... well, if I can live my life such that something even remotely close to this can be said of me when I die, then I will consider my life a great success! I hope we can all live so that it might be said of us and our families that 'we are perfectly honest and upright in all things; firm in the faith of Christ, even unto the end.'
Love You All.

1 Nephi Chapter 17

8 And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto me, saying: Thou shalt construct a ship, after the manner which I shall show thee, that I may carry thy people across these waters.
9 And I said: Lord, whither shall I go that I may find ore to molten, that I may make tools to construct the ship after the manner which thou hast shown unto me?
10 And it came to pass that the Lord told me whither I should go to find ore, that I might make tools.
13 And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led.

Building a ship is not something Nephi knew how to do but he had such great faith that the Lord would provide a way. If we can have that kind of faith and trust in the Lord, He will be able to carry us through any trial or hardship. Heavenly Father knew what he was doing when he put us here on this earth. He has given us the scriptures, prophets, friends, family, and most importantly prayer. He wants us to succeed! I know we can when we give our WHOLE hearts to Him and trust that in His timing!

Prepare to meet God

Alma 34:31-32
"Yea, I would that ye would come forth and harden not your hearts any longer; for behold, now is the time and the day of your salvation; therefore, if ye will repent and harden not your hearts, immediately shall the great plan of redemption be brought unto you."
and then halfway through 32:
"... this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors."

Wow! I love how in vs. 31 it says: IMMEDIATELY shall the great plan of redemption be brought unto you. not maybe, or it's a small chance He might forgive you. It says immediately!! And all WE have to do is not harden our hearts and repent! Then in vs. 32 it says: this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God. How true is that! This life isn't about having the BEST of the BEST, your not trying to beat out your neighbor by having the best car, or having the most money. It's about doing what is right and repenting and making sure your always living your best so you can live with our Eternal Heavenly Father, and our family for, FOREVER! :) I love that thought! It really brings me so much joy! I know this Gospel is true, and I'm so grateful for it!
I love you all!!

Yielding Our Hearts Unto God

Helaman 3:35
35 "Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God."

How do we become pure? How are our hearts sanctified? Through the YIELDING OF OUR HEARTS UNTO GOD! He is not going to take away our agency to act and decide for ourselves. It is up to us to YIELD, TO GIVE UP, to voluntarily hand over our will and truly give Him our hearts, our whole hearts. How do we do that? This scripture sheds some light... it is done, at least in part, by fasting and praying OFT! I would add daily reading of the word of God, keeping and renewing baptismal and temple covenants, and serving others. Consistency, frequency, sincerity. This keeps God at the forefront of our minds and involves Him in our day to day lives. By so doing, we will 'wax stronger and stronger in our humility' as we are reminded of how much we rely on the Lord and how little we can actually do by ourselves. These things will lead us to wax 'firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ' as we learn of Him and walk in His paths. And the beauty of it all is that as we do these things and grow closer to our Father and our Savior, our souls will be filled, not just a sprinkle or a dab, but FILLED with JOY and CONSOLATION!
You will find as you yield your heart unto God, that He will make more out of your life than you could possibly make on your own. How grateful I am for these truths.
Love you.

True Happiness

"Let us realize that we are not to live to ourselves, but to God; by so doing the greatest blessings will rest upon us both in time and in eternity." Joseph Smith, History of the Church, 4:231

We are placed in this probationary state of mortality to learn to put off the natural, selfish, worldly man and become men and women of Christ. If we live for ourselves-our interests, our desires, our whims and wants-we ultimately end up empty and unfulfilled, ever longing for elusive peace and contentment. All the alluring things in this world will never fully satisfy the deep longings of the soul. We know, as Joseph the Prophet instructed, that "there is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundation of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated-And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated" (
D&C 130:21-22). Indeed, great blessings of joy and peace await the obedient. We will be blessed both here and hereafter as we live with "faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God" (D&C 4:5).
Lloyd D. Newell

I'm so grateful to have the gospel in my life. I know that as I try my best to live closer to God and keep the commandments that he will bless me. True happiness comes from living the gospel. We are so blessed to know this and to be able to share it with others.

Testimony of the Book of Mormon

We recently came across this short Mormon Message on The Book of Mormon and remembered the powerful testimony that Elder Jeffery R. Holland shared with us in conference. We loved this video and wanted to share.
